2008: first post of the year / primer post del año / primeiro post do ano / premier post de l’année

Hi. I’m back from a short break in Uruguay. I’m starting this year’s posting with some pictures taken in December around Plaza Cortázar (also known as Plaza Serrano). There have been some changes recently, like the closure of Babel, which was one of the first stores to open in the neighborhood many years ago, and the opening of new ones. Fortunately, the cafés around the plaza which are icons of Palermo Viejo persist, like the Bar El Taller (currently celebrating its 20th anniversary) and the Bar Utopía (and its mural painted by French artist Jean-Claude “Ginger” Poujoulet).

Hola!

I actually stumbled across your page while looking for suggestions as to a place to work while in BsAs. Long story short, I'm going to be here for at least 6 months studying abroad, and really want to find some kind of job that would help me to network as well as get paid under the table...so I thought I would try to be a cocktail waitress or something...the only problem is I need some advice on where to apply. Clearly, I can speak english and my spanish is not bad at all, but i'm still a little hesitant to walk into a bar and ask about a job. Plaza Serrano was recommended to me by some Argentines since it is semi-touristy, but you seem to know what's going on...so, any suggestions how to go about doing this as well as where to go? Thanks so much!

Hi Hannah, if you are looking for a job in Palermo Viejo, you'll find more than 200 restaurants to apply. If I were you I'd choose first the most elegant and trendy places, then, I'd go for the regular ones, mostly around Plaza Serrano. I can give you a map with a list of restaurants if you wish.
